came across this nifty piece of software/game (http://www.synthesiagame.com) and got me all wound up I've always wanted to be able to play the piano, but can't bother to take lessons anymore (should've started when I was 12)

so if I'd buy a keyboard (let's keep it to entry level) what would you suggest?

preferably w/ usb port (don't want to bother with midi adapter) and if I'd want to take my first steps into producing, are there features you'd look for?

fyi, M-audio Axiom Pro61 looks horny but unfortunately not quite in my budget range

Keep in mind you might want to go for a full-size keyboard, considering the purpose... Not to little piano songs make use of far spread octaves, which you might not reach when using a 49-key keyboard...
61 would be your "safe" minimum i guess, 88 ('full' size, pianowise) keys would be optimal .
Either way, look for a keyboard with more heavy keys. They dont have to be "real-feel" or I'm not trying to trick you in buying some expencive piece, but you will get sick of the plastic, lightweight feel that lots of these keyboard have very soon...

133 euro for a 61-key... € 99 for 49-key was nicer but ok :p

Well, i wouldnt know about the feel on those actually. Best thing to do is go out to a musicshop and try to hit some keys on different brands... Just to test them out, and find the one that you'd like to play.
As for the keys <> money thing... It sure is a notable difference... You gonna have to make it up for yourself, I'm just warning you you might come across pieces of music where you gonna need the keys...

If it's only for producing and not really for playing the piano one hour a day i think you won't really miss the heavy keys. Of course it's nicer but at least i don't think it's worth the extra money unless you have too much of it.

But it isnt only for producing... On the contrary, it's to play piano choons (djeez man, read the posts tggggg)
