I'm gonna try to save some money this year and then I'm gonna buy myself some real good (and expensive) shizzle I think.
Maybe it will be these ...

If u have a linear bandwith from 38Hz (f1 in the pic) to 23,5 kHz (f2 in the pic), it means that everything between these points should have a response from 0dB to -3dB (standard for bandwith specifications), so the response is equal for every frequency between these points with a tolerance of 3dB.

"-10dB point" means in the bandwith you have a tolerance of -10dB so the specificated bandwith is mesured between the two points where the responce is -10dB. So the response will be lower at that "-10dB point".
So the bandwith wil be larger measured over -10dB than over -3dB if you are measuring the same output.

note that an increase with 3dB, the output volume will be doubled

I myself have Genelecs 1029A's with a1091A sub and they are the shizzle, but I don't have experience with them other brands.

Grab your favourite CD , select a track you've heard a trillion times in as much different places.

Go to the store, play the track you know almost by hart, and switch between the different monitors. Choose the monitor pair you find the most "honest" sounding.

Using the track will be a good reference, as you know how it should sound! And listen carefully!

As a little test you could switch between Genelecs or Dynaudio and some KRK rocket speakers, you'll immediatly hear the difference in the low end, as KRK tend to colour in lower Freq, giving it a more bombastic sound. ( which in my opinion is not what you want from monitors..)

Have fun!

Personal opinion innit :)
I went to several stores and in the in the mid price range the KRK's came out (in my opionion) the best (read flattest with least colouring). Also, comparing Dynaudio with Rockits is like comparing a Rolex with a Casio.

As always, you get what you pay. :)

And the most important, I've heard people create great music with ace mixdowns on shitty home entertainment systems. All about knowing your gear.
