Post pioneer mixers : cue section question!
if i just use "channel cue" buttons and move the rotary knob all the way to master to ear the master mix, would it be the "real" master (equing included)?

because switching to the "master" channel includes pushing on too many buttons + changing headphones volume everytime (master is always much lower, dunno why!), its not fast enough and not accurate at all!

i use "cue-to-master-fading" a lot these times (it rocks!!) and i dont own a pioneer mixer, so i have to ask you this to cue better next time i have to use one! thanks!

I think i have an idea what u mean ...

The thing is ... U mix in your headphones. Not bad, some like it, others don´t ... :)

I personally dont like mixing in my headphones, I just cue up the track and once its 50% in I continue on the monitors... at least you hear what your doing :)

A good hint, if u have that option on the mixing panel, is to let the master come thrue in your headphones in very low % ... that way u can perfectly beatmatch your tracks (good if your faderswitching fe.)

Mixing just is allot of button pushing and knob twisting ... but if there is one thing im not touching its the volume of the phones :) (btw: i never put my headphones very loud, monitors do have to push loud tho :) )

i'm more and more mixing in my headphones because most of the time monitoring is very bad. even at home, its much more accurate to ear the master in the headphones when equing, you are sure to do what you want. i'm always amazed to compare the sound in my headphones with the sound of the speakers...completely different. i just use the monitors to pitch, then I do everything with the headphones on.

but the fact is that with my mixer, its pretty easy to switch from cue to master : its a battlemixer, and theres just one button to hit. moreover the cue-fader is located just in the middle of the mixer, so it goes very fast and when something goes wrong i ear it immedialtely. on club mixers when you switch from cue to master, you have to push at least 3 buttons and turn volume knobs, it takes a lot of time...moreover on pioneer when you push on more than 1 button at a time, nothing happens...

big djs dont seem to do all this stuff...assuming they dont use tricked cds, i suppose theres a easy way to ear quickly cue and/or master. i suppose its this button...moreover with cue fading you make incredibly better transitions : the snares are perfectly matched everytime! and the monitoring is much less important...you can practically mix without monitoring : its something i'd like to be able to do!

I understand where your going to, but its all his own style of mixing I suppose.

U say u hear it defferent in your phone then on the monitors ... true, but then again, what is more important, that it sounds good in the phone, or on the speakers ? ;) allot of "headphonemixers" dont notice the change in volume and overall Eq'ing of the tracks (imo) I just get a narrowed sounding feeling when mixing in headphones that I dont like AT ALL.

teasing, switching, fadercutting etc etc ... all belongs to my style of mixing ... wich is praticly not possible with headphonemixing, just be confidend enough about your mixing, change your technieques often enough to be able to do it all and create more verious sets ... every soundsystem is different, every mixer is defferent, but in the end, what counts is that the sound in the room is "perfect" :)
