Post Seven & Dread Mc - Promomix
Seven is a badman dj. His selection is limited though. If you compare this with his other mixes, you'll see almost the same tunes each and every time. The tunes are good though, but I'll rather hear something new from time to time. But, technicaly this is one of the best dj's around! The combination are often off the hook!
Check for instance the 'Metal Mouth' - 'Filth' combo. Or 'Tron' into 'Metalic', 'Higher' into 'Crazy Talk' ... ruffness!

Enjoy!

That redline dubstars mix is still one of my favorites.

On the mixing part, i'm not familiar with serato so i'm just guessing here...

I have the feeling all his sets are prepared to the max, pre made playlists with already synchronised pitching.

I saw him spinning and doing combos without his headset on for like almost his whole set.

Not sure ofcourse if i can conclude the pre pitching thing, just wondering?

with serato you have to pitch yourself but you can select and organise your music on bpm... it also has an option to show the bpm of the track you are playing/goin' to play...
and the same goes for traktor scratch if you use it with timecodevynils... it isn't much different then mixxin' with modern cd-players...

and you can make beatgrids and change the bpm of the waves/320's/... and prepare the set to the max.

I use traktor scratch since october or something... not that i'm not buyin' any vynil anymore... Just handy if you are sick of draggin' around 2 or 3 crates of vynil if you have to play a long set in a café/bar

btw, i prepare my sets in the way that i "make my bag" by makin' a playlist for the night/gig i'm playin at... I don't see a reason to change the bpm or pitch of a track in advance...

I don't see how else you can beatmatch if you don't listen to the tunes you want to mix ( and doing some slick combos).

uuughm poepsnor... i don't think you understand what i mean...
i mean:
you can't edit the bpm of a tune on vynil either... like, editing all your tunes to be like 142 bpm so you'll never have to change the pitch on your pitchfader again... I DON'T SEE A REASON TO DO THAT... off course you have to listen to the record and beatmatch it before you mix it in...

Dowloading this one. Seven wil deliver once again i recon. :rinse:
About the serato deal...
I personally don't see it as a good base to start on as a begnning DJ... but if you know what spinning is all about and you think your mixing is up to the challange, it's really attractive to work with serato or final scratch to get your mixing cranked up a noch... hence the unnaturally slick crossfadng actions, fx's and eq tweekage... :) I'm just getting sick and tired of dudes that want to make some buckz and start spinnin' the newest bonkers/riverside/i'm in miami choons with serato and act like gods whilst they probably can't even spin an improvisation set out of their own feeling , let alone matching 2 regular vinyl records. (Yes i know of such geezers... :p)
Conclusion: IMO, serato & final scratch used by an experienced dj that uses it to take mixing to a higher level or has to travel all over the place is completely understandeable and makes for booming sets. Guys spinning for 4 months that got some cash and want to be able to zauif about 3 bottles of vodka behind the decks and still mix like gods... not gud, no respect...

Might be a personal observation though... :p None the less... i said it! :teeth:

Awel, he doesn't do that..., saw him twice live without headphones (even not on his neck). As said before i have no clue what the possibilities are with serato, so i was just guessing. I thought someone told me it was possible to do that, but could be wrong of course.

edit: just saw a youtube movie with headsets on. soit

Seven still is a badman dj.

We were just 'discussing' and coming to the conclusion that serato has no advantages in mixing...

I didn't say it has no advantages in mixing... it does...

like I allready said:
you can change the bpm of all your mp3's/waves in advance to the same tempo so you'll never have to touch the pitchfader again...

So of course it's possible to do what you say... but what I want to clarify is that not every dj using serato/traktor/... uses it in this way...

If you are using serato/traktor it's still your own choice how you work with it...

Post Re: Seven & Dread Mc - Promomix
I like the overall way Seven mixes, keeping two tunes in the mix almost constantly, for instants that Marmite combo blew my head off! With some other tunes I feel like he should've better just cut the other one out, fe. Tron, has way more power when it's just dropped alone imo :)

And the way he mixes, yeah probably he has some trick with syncing his BPM or something, and another thing is that almost all dubstep tunes are at 140.. But his timing is ace and I quiet like his selection, so big mix non the less :)

Lol oke, useless conversation then because we were on the same page from in the beginning, just mis interpreted. Pretty obvious that not every serato user is doing it that way.

Will try to be there in july!
