i just want to add one thing about eq and compression

check liquidmix by focusrite and sintefex. I simply love it.
it isn't free, but it's well worth it's price.

Another noob question :teeth:
I'm trying to create some deep tones with the crystal plugin but at the beginning and the ending of the tone there's always a poffy-sound (don't know how to name it), how come?

junglebreaks: check the attack and decay of the filters. pull them up a bit. Sometimes crystal does have some glitches but i can live with it since it's a totally free plugin.

also: disable all the delays you don't use since they can give you unexpected noises..

yep it was the attack of the amplitude, but that's funny because I was doin' a tutorial and they said to set the first two points in the beginning, problem solved atm.

haha sepper. that's just what i did. as time goes by, i use less and less plugins. nowadays i can almost do all synthesis with one synth (albino) and all those other softsynths are slowly fading away. i do occasionally test something out, but it seldom sticks.

and maybe one day you'll work plug-in less- like full on reason :)
i am not making this up, just do a search how many times they asked me 'if i was on hardware'

blatantly self centered post, but what else is new here on breakz ;)

what i mean is: less is def more, it's not the tools you work with, it's how you manage to deliver the end content.

i mean, loads of you guys sound as a "synth" , if you catch my drift, i don't feel any organic forms . no diss, just my thoughts.

i did my last dedicated audio full on in reason for a movie so go figuring, all i had to do is provide 2 stereo tracks for the engineers to create a dolby track out of it. > Gangsterminus

anyway, just my thoughts :] laters

hey saphir. what's the difference between using a VST-plugin and Reason-synths (like Maelstrom, or subtractor) ?
You could say that a lot of artists sound Reasonish.
I don't think we can work pluginless. How else do we have sound-generators? It's not like a sequencer makes noise :p
And purely sample-based working has never fit right with me. I like my additive synth.

joy cjpa :] thats my whole point, thanks

i don't care by far what you all are using, all i am saying is
that loads tend to lean on a certain vst by name/by hype by whatever
so to me , the end result counts, so i did the same, rant abit about how "in love i am with reason" i mean, how many times do i read albino is uberfat, while 80 % doesn't even know how to propperly work with it.
so in my own little humble comfy way : i like to work with self teaching tools /workflows such as reason (sonar came close) (maybe thats why i like actionscript so much aswell)

i don't know even the slightest detail about audio techniques, or what granular / etc synth. is.
but i know what my ears want to hear
i know it's a weird post, but if you catch my drift, it's quite straight forward.
cj sure nailed it spot on ;)

have a good night all : bbq time

personaly I feel less is more aswell ...

it's a bit like in a real studio man ... I mean you don't go in there
and switch on every synth/effect you spot and start twisting knobs
randomly ... no you go sit ther on one machine and explore it if it can
attract your attention by a good sound or preset ... you start tweaking
the machine till it sounds better and you get the hang of really USING that
machine... then you'll get bored by that machine and look at the next nifty thing that looks impressive ...

same goes for synths with me ... I check one ... get really working with it ...
after a time I get bored and look for a new one ...

and in the end like stated ; you don't need a hyper überfat studio to make real good music ... there are pieces of music that changed the world that where made on rubbish material ...

now my top 5

1 Nomad factory series of plugins (everything dynamics, EQ, reverb)
2 Rob Papen Albino 2 or 3
3 Rob Papen Predator
4 WAVES bundle
5 DUBSTATION !!! (cjpa forgot this one I'm shure :D )

so if I get you right, most of the producers just load in a preset and try to optimize it? They don't start from only one oscillator, add some others, doin' the enveloppe, the filters, ... and create a 'new' sound, like I'm trying to do (very hard to make descent sound, especially in the beginning)

i think most of us have a bunch of presets that we are comfortable with to build on.
Why invent the wheel over and over again? ;)

Though there is some merit in building a sound up from the ground. It teaches a lot about sound-scaping, for one ;)

OK, everything was going just fine with my my new plugins, and I'm using them a lot, but at a certain moment my cpu couldn't take it anymore. So I tried to load the song on a different computer with better cpu. But the ammount of underruns on that computer is HUGE (only when you use a lot of plugins), How come? Because of my crapy soundcard? Buffer lenght is maximum.
