have to say i was quite impressed with the looks and the sound of Thor :O

but haven't got enough time yet to really get into it.

thor = megabassmachine tho !!
i don't undertstand shit of that regroove mixer, but hey ...

in the regroove mixer simply add a patch and toy around

when you look at the sequencer tracks there are little pulldown menus
(edit: if you can't find it, try adding a "lane" for that specific instrument)
you now can refer to the regroove patterns for example A > eclipse beat

also (tip) try to link to effects ;)

hope this helps

Reason why i changed to Cubase (pun not intended). And when i finally mastered that sequencer, i noticed that in dancemusic, you don't need tempochanges at all!
HAH!

Must say i'm pleasantly surprised by the work they did on the sequencer. Big step forward!

60 min beta-testing period learned me this:

HUGE improvement of the sequencer: color-customisation, add tags, easier automation (as sub-lanes of yer module/instrument nstead of seperate lanes), sooo cute that lil' timeline (took them 3 versions.. )

improvement of the tool menu/devices: quantize/pitch/note velocity/note length/legato adjustments/alter notes

thor: got to get used to the interface (a bit scruffy and untidy imo), but the sounds are convincing and sculpting/routing (think Albino-matrix) options are ace..
A big round of applause to the audio-input facilities (in fact in previous versions you could do the same with a workaround-way, but here things are more cleverly integrated)

regroove: could be THE tool to add that own familiar quantization/personal groove patterns, but imo the possibility to up to add 8 different grooves is a bit farfetched.

didn't work with rpg-8 yet

I just seem to find it rather hard to believe that they release tunes on vinyl of which the mastertape/cd/... is the wave file straight out of reason ...

don't forget about mastering..

dnb isn't exactly the land of big budgets so i can't imagine producers tracking out their tunes in an expensive studio (besides the happy few)

straight out of the sequencer + mastering = finished product

(even the mastering bit can be done at home if you're not to worried about sound quality but hey.. gonna make a 320 of it anyways so who cares right)

so hows the upgrade doing for you all?

didn't found too much time to actually go in depth with the new reason
but it all ready feels comfy (for which i am glad, new alternations always require a certain amount of time)

but workflow ... it's so much faster, knowing it was all ready at a fair speed...
loving it.

I completely switched back to Reason with this version :D

Btw, the new edition of Computer Music has a Reason 4 special where they explain how Regroove works and a nice 'step by step' on the rpg-8 and Thor.

AND they did a Reason versus Pro Tools mix. Gotta say I was pretty suprised. The Pro Tools mix came out better (duh) but the Reason mix wasn't that far behind and sounded very clean and sharp.

For all those complaining about the 'unconvincing sound' and lesser sound-engine (which personaly i avoided by rewiring to a host (cubase sx)), i recommend you to try some combinator patches... Instant satisfaction guaranteed. Reason hasn't and will not promote itself as a fullscale all-implementing host sequencer, so no, you won't hear the instant quality of massive's/absynth's/fm8's/battery's/z3ta's/... but after some patching and throwing modules together and combining them into a Combinator, you will...
still a huge fan of Reason, and in point of views, it's even better or more user-friendly than good 'ol cubase itself! go figure..
