Post which are the best VSTi's according to you?
which VSTi's do you use on a regular basis?
Try to give a short discription about what the vst does and why you think it's one of the best.

synth: z3ta+, i like this one A LOT cuz of the lfo's and assignable effects, great for morphing strings pads whatever even warm basses...

sampler: kontakt of corso, it's the first soft sampler i ever had a go at, and i never used anything else. I tried halion a bit, but i decided to stick to kontakt anyway.

effect hmm i have a long long list, and my favorite effects are buzz-ones so... but a vst, quadfrohmage( )(filter) or ohmboyz (delay). I like all ohmboyz plugins, but these are the ones i use most. although i do find quadfrohmage quite a cpu eater so... that's a less good point about it :P

well that's my list :D

why only vst?

couldn't you better rephrase that as in which VSTi ( instruments) or VST effects you use moslty, cause vst is just one protocol of many others that are available ;)

BTW and what about dxi2, RTAS or for our mac friends AU?

Or are you only intrested in the VST protocol from steinie ?

If that's the case you're missing a shitload of good other virtual instruments and fx that uses different protocols..

Well to answer zzero's question:
I'm just looking for some quality software to use in Cubase

like soundmodules and samplers

I'm not familiar with the correct terms.

So just give me a rundown of the stuff you use

I often use:

Battery as a drumcomputer: does exactly what I want it to do. No crap that you don't need anyways. Easy to use!

Halion as a softwaresampler: Best I've tried yet (gonna check out kontakt later on) I like the fact that u can load more than one sound in one miditrack.

JX 16: easy to use soundmodule with all the basic options

softsampler: Kontakt (the only one i tried, but i like it a lot)
softsynths: V-station, absynth (although not too much/read: too difficult), fm7
effects: psp42 & psp84, predathohm, kantos(actually some kind of effect/synth) and the waves compressors

to edit drumloops, i use a combination of wavelab, reason (rex) and phatmatik pro

I also use Battery as sampler, although it is mainly meant as a pure drumsampler it fulfills all my sampling-demands quiet well, a good no-nonsense sampler that does the job, although I heard many good things about Konatakt, but I don't have it, so don't know if its better. One of the cool things about Battery is that you can build y'r drums in one midi-channel and still route every sound seperately to a different channel in your mixer.
Arturia Moog Modular is probably my favorite vst, the basses you can get from it  it's a bit a pain in the ass to configure it accurately, but the phat warm basses you can get from it are just unbelievable.
I also like Absynth a lot but I'm still not good enough in configuring it correctly, something I'm working on ;)
For effects I limit myself to those that come standard with cubase... :D

bit offtopic but if you're looking for a very good drumsampler/drumsynth then try out fxpansios DR008. When it comes to performance, features and cpu use it eats battery.

I've used battery for years, even bought it. After doubting for months i decided to give dr-008 a run and i was amazed by it. U can see it as a sort of combination between NI battery and waldorf rackattack drumsynth.
plus a nice extra it can run some musiclab midifx as modules within the DR-008 itself =)

BTW @ nox u said that battery had multiple out. well most software drumsamplers have that ability but please don't forget that battery only gives u multiple out when it's used in vst mode, it doesn't support multiple outs in dxi mode cause NI haven't made it fully 100% compatible with the dxi2 standard

whenever I get my set up fixed (which will be in a gazillion years) I'll be exploring the depths of kontakt, absynth, albino, psp fx and hopefully the PC version of Mach5.
